Our Garden Design Process

Designing a garden should feel exciting, not overwhelming. My role is to make the whole experience enjoyable, clear and inspiring from the very first conversation. Whether you’re redesigning a tired corner, tackling a full garden transformation or finally creating the space you’ve dreamed about once the children have flown the nest, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Below is the simple, collaborative process we’ll follow together.

1. Initial Chat

Every project begins with a relaxed conversation. We’ll talk through what you’d love your garden to be - practical, peaceful, playful, low‑maintenance, wildlife-friendly, or a blend of everything.
It's an opportunity for you to share your hopes, your frustrations, and the way you’d like the space to support your lifestyle now.

There’s no obligation and no pressure; just a friendly, informative chat to help you decide what’s right for you.

2. Home Visit & Site Assessment

If you decide to go ahead, I’ll visit your garden to take measurements, photographs and a closer look at the conditions: soil type, sunlight, existing planting and the overall character of your home.

This visit helps me understand how the garden really behaves throughout the day - and it’s where ideas often start to spark for both of us.

3. Concept Design

Next, I bring the early ideas together into a clear, visual concept.
This gives you:

  • A beautifully presented overview of the proposed layout

  • Key planting themes, tones and textures

  • Styling suggestions that complement your home and your personal taste

The concept stage isn’t about perfection - it’s about possibilities. We talk it through openly, make adjustments and ensure it feels right for you.

4. Detailed Design & Planting Plan

Once the concept is approved, I develop the full design package. This includes:

  • Scaled layout drawings

  • Detailed planting plans tailored to your garden’s conditions

  • Any recommendations for materials, structures or finishes

This is where your new garden truly comes to life on paper, with every detail designed to suit your lifestyle, your level of experience, and the atmosphere you want to create.

5. Implementation Support

You’re free to use your preferred landscaper, or I can recommend trusted local professionals. I offer ongoing support during installation, managing the project to ensure the design is interpreted correctly and everything progresses smoothly.

If you prefer to implement the garden gradually, we can phase the plan so you can work in stages that suit your timeframe and budget.

6. Aftercare & Settling In

As your garden beds in, I’m on hand for check-ins, seasonal advice and tweaks if needed. Gardens evolve, and I want yours to thrive long after the final plant is placed.

A Garden Designed for You

Your garden should feel like an extension of your home - calm, uplifting and uniquely yours. My design process is flexible, supportive and shaped around exactly how you want to use your space.

If you’d like to explore the possibilities for your garden, I’d love to start the conversation.
