Supermarket Gardening

Have you, like me, tried to get supermarket potted herbs to grow outside? I quite often fail, so this year I’ve tried to me a bit more scientific about it!

These little pots of basil, parsley and coriander etc. are all grown from seed in the pot they are sold in. The plants are made up from several individual plants which can all be split. Once the best of the herb, in this case basil, had been harvested I popped the basil outside during the recent warm weather to harden off a bit. After a few days I split the plant into individual seedlings - I managed to get over 12 viable plants from one small pot. I’ve potted them up into individual cells and will leave them in the cold frame until frosts are no longer a risk.

Will post again and let you know how they are getting on!
