I’m planning a trip to Colesbourne Gardens in Gloucestershire this February as it only opens for 5 weekends every year. Known as ‘England’s greatest snowdrop garden’, it’s home to 250 cultivars of Galanthus. As thousands of snowdrops are planted every year it’s one of the best places to see these gentle white flowers - in particular Galanthus ‘S.Arnott’. @colesbournegardens
Further afield is The Savill Garden in Surrey - a must on a crisp winter’s morning. As you enter from an elevated position great swathes of Cornus are shown off to dramatic effect as they weave in between birches by the water’s edge. There are stunning planting combinations of sedges and spring bulbs and in amongst the woodland gardens there are yet more winter gems: the silky buds of Magnolia stellata glisten in the frost and the flowers of Hamamelis x Intemedia ‘Diane’ are like bright red shreds of ribbon. One of my favourite winter gardens. @windsorgreatpark
