Gardens & Health 2020

This week saw the launch National Garden Scheme’s Gardens & Health Week, an event designed to raise awareness of the physical and mental health benefits of gardening. It couldn’t be more timely.

Studies have shown that the benefits of gardening numerous, just being outside boosts our vitamin D intake, it is one of the best activities for reducing levels of stress as it lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol after just 30 minutes, it may decrease dementia by up to a third, and then there is the aerobic exercise. Even if you have no garden daily fresh air is invaluable. Time spent in a woodland is never wasted, the benefits of trees and woods to our sense of well-being are limitless.

Visit the NGS website for some amazing stories of inspiration and hope.
