It’s all about bulbs this month in the garden. Time to start planting your spring flowering bulbs, the last chance to plant bulbs to flower at Christmas and, later this month, lifting gladioli as the leaves start yellow.
As they are such an easy way to get colour into the garden, whether in pots or the borders, I do get carried away and over-order. This year I’ve added Triteleia laxa, triplet lily, to my ever-lengthening list. These summer-flowering bulbs have pretty sprays of flowers at the top of wiry stems, not dissimilar to those of agapanthus. Dependable and easy to grow, triteleias make fantastic cut flowers and are attractive to pollinating insects. How could I resist?
